Britain, June, 2006

There are those who think that we do not have the right to protect or defend ourselves, but must wait meekly for our annihilation just like the tragic victims of the Jewish Holocaust. How dare we take pre-emptive action to avoid the mass-murder of innocents!

The question is: how much more of this nauseating spectacle do we have to endure before it is said, loudly and clearly, "enough is enough"? Is this really Britain, the country I grew up in?

This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,

This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,

This other Eden, demi-paradise,

This fortress built by Nature for herself

Against infection and the hand of war,

This happy breed of men, this little world,

This precious stone set in the silver sea,

Which serves it in the office of a wall,

Or as a moat defensive to a house,

Against the envy of less happier lands,

This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England

Is the Writing is on the Wall?

The writing is on the wall; or rather, the stickers are on the wall, and what a portentous message they display! The above sticker has started appearing all over Britain, and it is the Islamic organisation, Al-Ghurabaa, that is responsible for this wholesome piece of wall-shouting. There can be no doubt that this poster campaign will force the great British public to finally sit up and reasses their values and cultural heritage, summarising as it does the key shortcomings of the host culture whilst noting the unassailable superiority of Islam. The poster will also surely play a positive rôle in overcoming 'Islamophobia' and Koran-aversion, as well as laying to rest any nagging fears some people may have about a transnational-tribal plot to supplant their culture and replace it with something for which they might not yet be ready.

(To understand more about the values and aims of the wonderful people at Al-Ghurabaa, I urge you to visit their website at www.alghurabaa.co.uk .)

On reflection, however, I do feel that there may still be some room for improvement in the message conveyed by the poster; and not wishing to be too much of a jackanapes (for we all know that Islamists do not suffer jackanapeses lightly) I should like to proffer the following alternative version to it:

Oriana Fallaci: Courageous and Insightful Critic of Islam

I've just read a fascinating article about the Italian author and journalist Oriana Fallaci. During World War II, she was a partisan who fought against Fascism. She later became a renowned political interviewer, interviewing figures such as Khomeini and Kissenger. When interviewing Khomeini, she was typically pugilistic and asked him if he thought it was right to shoot a poor prostitute or an adulterer. It comes as no surprise to learn that the Islamic misanthrope did indeed think such things were necessary. At one stage during the interview with the Iranian spiritual leader, she announced: "I’m going to take off this stupid, medieval rag" , referring to the chador she had been forced to don. At this point, Khomeini stood up and walked out of the interview. Speaking later of her encounter with him, she said: "... it did not take long to realize that in spite of his quiet appearance he represented the Robespierre or the Lenin of something which would go very far and would poison the world."

Fallaci, now in her late seventies, sees Islamic fundamentalism as a revival of the Fascism she grew up fighting. She is convinced that the world situation now is substantially the same as in 1938, when many in Britain and France did not fully understand the Fascist threat they were faced with, and resorted to appeasement.

In her book, “The Rage and the Pride,” Fallaci explains how the attacks of September 11th transformed her from being a quiet novelist into an anti-Islamic rebel. She describes how Europe is gradually being transformed into a colony of Islam, an abject place that she calls “Eurabia”. Speaking of Islam in general, she says "I do not believe that a Good Islam and a Bad Islam exist. Only Islam exists. And Islam is the Koran. And the Koran says what it says".

Indeed it does!
